[Premium/Not For Sale] Reborns Gundam Papercraft ver. Ette
It's been a busy year for me, so I haven't written any blog since October. My last blog is about Shin Musha Gundam, built by Forsythia. He has made many good papercraft models since then. So I want to keep writing about his work.

Reborns Gundam Papercraft
Designer: Ette

Reborns Gundam: A combination of CB-001 1 Gundam and CBY-077 GN Cannon (a support unit designed for Innovades), acquired with 2 GN-Drives (Twin drive system) to match the power of GN-0000 00 Gundam.

"I activate my spell card: POLYMERIZATION!!!"
"FUSION!!!"
Reborns Gundam is the last enemy of GN-000 00 Gundam in the season 2 of the anime Mobile Suit Gundam 00, piloted by Ribbons Almark. It can transform between 2 modes: Cannon mode and Gundam mode.  In Cannon mode, this Mobile Suit specializes in long-range heavy-assault combat, firing with its 4 powerful large GN beam cannons. In Gundam mode, this is a real war machine, specializing in short to mid-range combat. Armed with a GN Buster Rifle, a GN Shield, 2 GN Beam Sabers, 8 Small GN Fin Fangs (hidden), 4 Large GN Fin Fangs and the power of Trans-Am System, Reborns Gundam is designed to dominate every single enemy in battle, including the GN-000 00 Gundam. The only reason why it failed is that: It's not the main character of the series (too bad, so sad).

I want to talk about the design first before talking about the papercraft model. In shape language, triangles and pointy shapes mean danger. That's why people usually use them for villain designs,  and the Reborns Gundam follows this basic rule. You can see that there're a lot of triangles and pointy shapes in this design.

One more thing I want to say about Reborns Gundam's design is the GN-drives. Unlike the GN-0000 00 Gundam with 2 GN-drives on the shoulders (can be seen from any angle), They decided to put the GN drives on the back of the elbows of the Reborns Gundam. The Twin drive system is the coolest, most powerful feature of the Gundam, and this design doesn't show it up. It always ends up in the back.

Can you spot the GN-drives?

Overall, I like the design of the Reborns Gundam. The only thing that I don't like about it is its high heels (the more I look at them, the more I dislike them). I don't know since when high-heeled is a style for mecha's feet design.

As I said at the beginning, this model was built by Forsythia. As always, his build is immaculate and bright.  I like that he didn't leave any printed folding line left after crafting it. The designer of this papercraft added some more textures on the armor to make it even better.

There's one thing about all Gundam papercraft that I hate so much is that the paper V-fin antennas are so fragile. They are thin and usually made from just 1 piece of paper. Moreover, they often leave the back empty without anything to cover. I'm happy when I see the V-fin of Reborns Gundam. It's big, stable and robust with the back covered.

Forsythia doesn't apply many customizations on this build. The only I can find is that he used some kind of special glossy decal for some parts to emphasize the head and also the GN drives. Those small decals do their job very well.

 Before and after

Next, I want to write about cannon mode and transformation. This model is not designed to be transformable. But Forsythia makes it possible to switch between Gundam mode and Cannon mode.
The transformation of this papercraft is quite simple. All you have to do is push the exhaust pipe's cover down, pull the head up, swap left-arm with right-arm and face them backward, spread out feet. Finish!

We can still see the Gundam head on the back quite clear while It's in cannon mode. It's even higher than Cannon mode's head. My suggestion is to take the Gundam head out while showing it in Cannon mode. But anyway, having a transformable Gundam with 2 styles is impressive enough. The total high of this Gundam is about 52cm. You will need a total of 80 pages for its template, including red, white, gold, black/dark gray.

Finally, here are some photos of the Reborns Gundam part-to-part and then the completed model posing with its weapons. I find that high heels are much more acceptable when posing aerial.

One more thing I want to say, If you're going to find the template for this papercraft, then you will be disappointed. Just like the Shin Musha Gundam, this papercraft can only be sold for Korean. And they are not free either. Just happy that people are still designing such beautiful papercraft like this.
